Professional

Professor Scott has been teaching a variety of world history courses at Corban since 2000, and each spring you can find him birding and teaching outdoors with the students in his Birds and Botany of Western Oregon class. Professor Scott is also the founder of “Westrek,” the Pacific Northwest Field Studies Program at Corban University that engages students in hiking and other outdoor adventures. In addition, he teaches at the International Teacher’s College in Indonesia.

Professor Scott serves as a board member for the Willamette Heritage Center, contributes to the historical journal Willamette Valley Voices, and is a faculty advisor for the Sustainability Stewardship Club. His professional interests include genealogy and regional history.

Personal

John is married to Sue Ellen, and he enjoys backpacking, photography, botany, bird-watching, biology, and studying local history. John’s favorite areas to visit are the Eagle Cap Wilderness in northeast Oregon’s Wallowa Mountains, the Metolius River Region in Central Oregon, and Cascade Head Forest Preserve.

NWCCU ACCREDITATION

Corban University is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) and completed a Year-Seven Comprehensive (Evaluation of Institutional Effectiveness (EIE)) in 2022 for continued accreditation. The comprehensive self-study was followed by an onsite evaluation in October 2022. In February 2023, Corban received reaffirmation of its accreditation for 7 years. Corban University’s last Mid-Cycle Evaluation was fall 2018, and its Policies, Regulations and Financial Review (PRFR) was completed in fall 2021. As of our most recent evaluation, Corban University is compliant with the Standards, Policies, and Eligibility Requirements of the NWCCU.
