Presidential Scholarship

The Presidential Scholarship recognizes the best and brightest students who exhibit high academic achievement, thoughtful scholarship, and a deep commitment to Jesus Christ.

These are the students who excel at Corban, where we are committed to serious-minded, thoughtful, Christian higher education that prepares students to think critically about their faith and step into their part in God’s plan with excellence, conviction, and grace.

Students selected for the Presidential Scholarship will receive our most generous scholarship and benefit from Corban’s Christ-centered mission, a strong liberal arts-based foundation, and a committed faculty who are experts in their discipline.

About the Scholarship

A total of seven (7) Presidential Scholarships will be awarded at three tier levels.

  • One (1) Full Scholarship
    • Covers full cost of attendance at Corban.
    • Replaces all other Corban aid.
  • One (1) $20,000 Scholarship
    • Replaces academic scholarship.
    • May not be combined with an athletic scholarship, but may be stacked with other Corban aid.
  • Five (5) $1,000 Scholarships
    • Stacks on top of academic scholarship.
    • May not be combined with an athletic scholarship, but may be stacked with other Corban aid.

How to Apply

Candidates for this scholarship will be automatically selected from new, incoming traditional undergraduate students based on high school GPA and a demonstrated commitment to their Christian faith. An application for admission must be submitted by November 15 to be considered for this scholarship. Candidates will be then be notified of their eligibility to apply and will go through a two-part application process.

The written Presidential Scholarship application opens in late November and must be submitted by December 15. Those selected to continue to the next round will be invited to campus for a Presidential Scholarship Competition Weekend in January.

1) Written Application

Eligible students will be notified of their invitation to apply after November 20. Requirements of the application include:

  • Minimum GPA: 3.5 or higher
  • Recommendation from pastor or youth pastor
  • A written essay (500-800 words) exploring the idea of what a Christian’s role is in today’s polarized society.
  • Application deadline (including reference): December 15, 2024

Students are selected to move on to the next phase by a committee.

2) Presidential Scholarship Competition Weekend

Final scholarship winners will be selected through an in-person event on Corban’s campus, January 24-25, 2025. Students will highlight their qualification for this prestigious scholarship through essays, interviews with faculty, and group discussions.

This competition weekend allows students to experience the Corban community at a formal banquet, where they will be able to spend extended time with faculty and staff, and by attending a student event with current Corban students. Scholarship candidates may also stay overnight in the residence halls with a student host if they wish.

Scholarship Details

First Tier Winner (1 award): Full tuition, food, housing, fees, books

  • The full cost of tuition, food, housing, fees, and books will be covered with the Corban Presidential Scholarship after all state and/or federal grants and other outside scholarships are applied.
  • Not eligible for other institutional aid, such as affiliation scholarships, athletic scholarships, or additional Corban aid.
  • Tuition: Student must be enrolled full time (minimum of 12 credits per semester). Covers up to 18 credits per semester.
  • Housing: Covers any standard dorm room. Students who choose a single occupancy room are responsible to pay the cost difference.
  • Meal Plan: Covers the student’s meal plan of choice.
  • Fees: All fees associated with enrollment are covered, including the student activity fee, counseling services fee, parking fee, association fees (if charged in student’s program), and specific class and lab fees.
  • Books: Covers $1,000 for books and supplies.

Second Tier Winner (1 award): $20,000 scholarship

  • $20,000 will be awarded toward tuition. This replaces any academic scholarship from Corban and may not be combined with an athletic scholarship. It may be stacked with other institutional aid for which the student is eligible, as well as state and/or federal grants and outside scholarships.
  • Tuition: Student must be enrolled full time (minimum of 12 credits per semester).
  • Housing, meal plan, fees, and books: Not included. Student is responsible for these costs.

Third Tier Winners (5 awards): $1,000 bonus scholarship

  • $1,000 will be awarded toward tuition, on top of the student’s academic scholarship. It may not be combined with an athletic scholarship, but may be stacked with other institutional aid, as well as state and/or federal grants and outside scholarships.
  • Tuition: Student must be enrolled full time (minimum of 12 credits per semester).

Scholarships are renewable for up to eight semesters as long as the student remains enrolled in good standing at the University.

 

NWCCU ACCREDITATION

Corban University is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) and completed a Year-Seven Comprehensive (Evaluation of Institutional Effectiveness (EIE)) in 2022 for continued accreditation. The comprehensive self-study was followed by an onsite evaluation in October 2022. In February 2023, Corban received reaffirmation of its accreditation for 7 years. Corban University’s last Mid-Cycle Evaluation was fall 2018, and its Policies, Regulations and Financial Review (PRFR) was completed in fall 2021. As of our most recent evaluation, Corban University is compliant with the Standards, Policies, and Eligibility Requirements of the NWCCU.
