139 Student Leaders Earn Act Six Leadership Scholarships

Families, schools, and communities are celebrating across the country. Act Six announced  that 139 emerging urban and community leaders across the United States will be attending college in the 2021-22 academic year as a part of the Act Six Scholar program, including 10 new students set to arrive on Corban University’s campus this fall. These students, many of whom are the first in their families to attend colleges, will be provided with full-tuition, full-need scholarships for the next four years of their academic journeys.

Selected through a rigorous three-month competition among more than 1,100 applicants, these diverse student leaders were chosen for their commitment to serving on campus and at home, passion for learning, eagerness to foster intercultural relationships, and willingness to step out of their comfort zones.

“Seeing our current cadre of scholars already engaged in leadership opportunities, we are eager to welcome another 10 scholars to join the growing family of Act Six members at Corban,” said Dean of Students, Nathan Geer. “Their enthusiasm for leadership is making a difference on our campus and captures our mission of making a difference in the world for Jesus Christ.”

Following is a list of this year’s Act Six recipients attending Corban University:

  • Ady Argueta Estrada, Early College High School
  • Sophiya Chuprova, McNary Senior High School
  • Kiara Fast, West Salem High School
  • Jerusalen Jiménez-Ramon, Sweet Home High School

  • Emanuel Muange, David Douglas High School
  • Kate Robertson, Sprague High School
  • Xea Sprague, Scio High School
  • Maxim Zagaynov, McNary Senior High School

Act Six scholars will begin an intensive six-month training program over the summer that involves weekly meetings with Act Six staff, retreats, and campus visits.

Eighty-one percent of Act Six scholars earn their bachelor’s degrees within six years, nearly double the rate for first-generation students nationwide, and more than two-thirds of the program’s graduates are working or serving back in their home communities.
