The Base of Asia
Indonesia, one of the world’s most populated countries, is also the world’s largest archipelago with more than 17,500 islands stretched across the base of Asia. Corban’s partnership there is both strategic and mission-focused.
Universitas Pelita Harapan Teachers College
Corban began a partnership agreement with Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH), in Karawaci, Indonesia, in June of 2009. This agreement advances Christian education throughout the nation of Indonesia. Corban’s partnership with UPH and its Teachers College (TC) is unique. So far, Corban has granted B.Ed. degrees to more than 2,000 teacher candidates at UPH. Upon graduation, these new teachers fill classroom positions at Christian schools throughout rural and remote areas of Indonesia.
Universitas Pelita Harapan International Teachers College
International Teachers College (ITC) was founded a few years later to prepare international students at UPH. Students come from all over East Asia and Africa to ITC to complete a program in Christian education. These students have an exciting task in front of them. Learning in English at the ITC, these future teachers will contribute effectively to the educational enterprise in their home countries.
Corban University is mentoring and guiding English-language proficiency instruction within ITC and developing a TESOL certification program for graduates to be prepared to teach in Christian schools throughout the region.
Sekolah Pelita Harapan
Graduates of Corban’s School of Education in Salem are also given the opportunity to work
at schools established by the Yayasan Pendidikan Pelita Harapan. Thus, several Corban alumni are now teaching in Indonesia and making a difference for Jesus Christ in a predominantly Muslim nation.
Imagine the possibilities over the next few years as we expand our programs in Indonesia! We’re praying for God to raise up many more teachers and school administrators, and the next generation of leadership in Christian education.
We hope you’ll partner with us in making a difference in the world for Jesus Christ. Do you have a special interest in the future of Asia? If so, let’s talk. . .
